Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. On its shoreline are many beautiful towns, with different characters, that are perfect for hosting your dream Italian wedding. By far the most popular is Malcesine, but Sara and Roger opted for a Salo wedding on the western side of the lake. Every summer Sara’s grandparents return to Hotel Adria in Toscolano Maderno and when Roger and Sara announced their engagement, the owner of the hotel offered a complementary stay so they could explore the area to see if they would like to get married there.
The plan worked. They booked the town hall for their Salo wedding ceremony, a small family run restaurant up in the hills for their reception, and booked all of the rooms in Hotel Adria for their guests.
Marco’s 1952 Cadillac de Ville was the perfect way to arrive at the Town Hall in style. The room in which the ceremony took place, The Sala Consiliera, was a bit of a surprise. It has a beautiful frescoed ceiling, plenty of natural daylight and more than enough room for guests – definitely worth visiting if you’re looking for an alternative to Malcesine Castle.
After taking the group pictures in the piazza, we found time for an ice-cream before hopping onto the boat for a Lake Garda excursion. It was great to see a different part of the lake, and the highlight of the trip was a closer look at the private island of Isola del Garda. Stunningly beautiful, it’s also a wedding venue, and we’d love to photograph a wedding there.
The boat took us back to Toscolano Maderno where Marco and the Cadillac were waiting to whisk us up into the hills, high above the lake, to Villa Dei Roccoli for the reception. The views from the restaurant are stunning. The perfect place to end the perfect day.
